Real life ghost stories I’ve heard #2

These are true ghost stories that I heard.

(Mini-brief – A ten-year-old school kid picks up a strange object, and what happens next is truly chilling.)

This true story is from my wife’s side of the family. It happened to one of her grandmothers. I got married back in 2012, when everyone in the world was predicting that the year would be the end of the world according to the Mayan calendar. (too funny).

After marriage, it’s kind of a normal tradition for newlywed couples to travel to close relatives’ places for a day or two. We both visited one of her close relatives from her mother’s side of the family. It’s within 200 km of Bengaluru.

We both visited their place. They lived in a village farmhouse away from the city, covered with paddy fields, crops and cattle. They treated us with so much love and care and took us to their family temple. They believed and treated us well. Around 2 o’clock, we were planning to visit their family paddy field, which is a few km outside the village.

We were about to leave home when my wife’s grandmother told us to wait for a minute. She was around 80 years old and had a face full of wrinkles and very few teeth in her mouth, but surprisingly she had an excellent eye site at that age too.

And came out with a few garlic pieces and gave us one. She told us to squeeze it and rug it behind our ears and also under our feet. I felt it strange and immediately asked them what this was for. She said since we just got married, we both are considered fresh and pure. So just to be safe to apply this. Then I looked at my wife with a questioning look. Then grandmother looked at him and said, I will explain why in the evening.

We both rubbed the garlic as instructed and left the paddy field. It was a breathtaking view, only seeing fresh green grass as far as we could see. Just beautiful and amazing. We stayed for a couple of hours relaxing and chilling and returned in the evening.

In the evening, we returned and took a cold water bath, which was so refreshing. Grandmother was sitting outside the house on the ground, grinding groundnuts into a fine powder using a homemade tool and eating them slowly, as she didn’t have teeth to chew them. A few minutes later, my wife came out with coffee and joined our conversation. Slowly, we came to the topic of ghosts and spirits because of the garlic in the morning.

Grandmother told us that newly married couples are considered fresh because of the marriage ritual and process following the marriage. And evil spirits of the village or wide open space will be attracted towards you. And since you’re in a new location, you don’t know which places you should visit and not visit, so this garlic will help you wander off evil spirits for some time.

My wife told her that I like horror stories, and I also I know a few horror movies. Then grandmother said when she was young she too experienced them.

This instantly brought all my attention towards her. I also requested that she please share her experience with us. She thought for some time and told us.

(This incident happened to her when she was eleven or twelve years old)

When she was eleven years old, she used to go to a government school, and it used to start from morning 8-30 AM to around 3-00 pm. After school was over, she used to walk home barefoot to home alone. And she said it used to take her 30 minutes to reach home. Her parents used to be on the farm to take care, so she always walked back long daily.

One particular day, while coming back on the way, she found a 10 piasa coin on the street.

(Back in the day, 10paisa was like 1000 rupees now.)

She was so happy, that she immediately picked up the coin without thinking even for a second. And ran towards her home to give her mom. She was so excited and happy that she never let it go, even for a movement.

When she reached home as usual, she changed her uniform clothes to regular clothes. Washer her face, hands and feet. But never let the coin out of her hand, even for a movement. Then she went to the kitchen, took a plate added white rice from the clay pot and also took some crud from another pot.

She mixed them with her hand. Then, by chance, the coin, which was in her left hand, somehow slipped from her grip and dropped into the curd rice plate.

(Even she doesn’t know how it slipped out of her hand)

As soon as the coin fell onto the plate, the entire curd rice instantly turned “red.”

This freaked her out so bad, she got up and ran outside out of fear. She doesn’t know what to do. She waited for some time, hoping to find someone or anyone to tell her what was happening or what happened to her.

Furthermore, she couldn’t spot a single person who could help her. She got more scared of what her mom might do to her later if she found out about it. So she built up a lot of courage and walked back into the home. Picked up the plate, which was as red as blood. Her hands were shaking, and she was sweating like crazy. She walked out of the house without dropping a single drop on the floor. And walked further away from home and through everything that was on the plate to the ground.

She turned around and took two steps, stopped, and turned back to look at the coin. But to her shock, she couldn’t find a single drop of crud rice on the ground or even the red color mark. The ground was as dry as before she threw the crud rice. Next movement, she forgot about everything and ran home and locked the door.

To this day, she doesn’t know what happened that day. This was an amazing true story. After this, she told another Ghost story, which I will write in the next chapter soon.

After listening to this, I got inspired and made a horror short film based on the coin. Please Enjoy
