Real life ghost stories I’ve heard #1
Chikmagalur is one of the most beautiful places in India. It is surrounded by lush green hills and valleys, often gently covered with white clouds and fog. Every breath you take feels fresh and refreshing, allowing your body to relax with each inhalation.
Most tourists visit only a few famous hilly areas, waterfalls, and coffee plantations for trekking in Chikmagalur. Attractions like Mullayanagiri, Kudremukh, Baba Budangiri, and Hebbe Falls are breathtaking and mesmerizing. Just being there allows you to appreciate the majestic natural beauty.
(I recommend everyone visit this place if they are in Karnataka and have the chance to breathe in the fresh air. Please remember to avoid littering. Respect the natural beauty of any place you visit.) ———————————————————
This is a true story shared by a friend who experienced it in 2001. Arun (name changed) is originally from Chikmagalur, his hometown. He works in Bangalore and visits whenever he gets a chance.
The best time is from July to September because of the rain. During the rainy season, the entire valley comes out alive. Everywhere you look, there is a green and calming natural beauty.
During this time, all of his friends come home, too, and there will be a get-together party. Then they decide on which day and when to gather for a hike. But they never take the same path as other tourists. They take the path and select the mountain that no tourist has heard of or ever gone on.
This year they decided to explore a new mountain and new path. They packed everything for a 2-day trek. Apart from basic things like clothes and food, they also cooked, so they carried firewood, utensils, water and camping equipment.
They made sure each guy carried their own special or specific branded drink. None of them wanted to share. Not because they want to, but every time when it comes to drinks, they always argue with each other for no reason on which one to buy and how much they will drink. So they made a new rule each one would buy their preferred choice whether they drank or not it was a different story.
On the way to their destination, they talked about their experience with whom they met and the girls they saw and spoke with and went on dates with. They teased each other, took pictures, and laughed with each other and on others and themselves.
It took them 4 to 5 hours to reach their destination around evening. They found a safe place where they could set a campfire and also find natural water or a stream of fresh water flowing.
They set up their tent and unpacked, and the first thing they did was play music through the local radio channel, with that, they started drinking for an hour. Once they were high or when they were in a certain zone, they decided to prepare to cook. They kept drinking slowly while cooking chicken, dry chicken and chicken gravy, and they had roti and chapati packed. They just had to heat it and eat it, that’s all. Finally, the food was prepared and everything was ready.
By now it was around evening and the sun was setting they were enjoying and sunset and the cold breeze on top of the mountain and their music was playing in the background everybody was enjoying each other’s company.
Slowly, one by one, started tasting dry chicken, and some tasted grave chicken with drinks. It was a bit of spice, but it didn’t stop them from enjoying it. They all kept laughing, and some even started telling philosophy too.
Then Ravi (name changed) got up and told others he was going to pee and walked a little further away from where they had camped, saying he couldn’t see the campsite.
Arun and a few others kept an eye on him to see how far he had gone. And they were also going back to their conversation and eating and enjoying music.
Slowly time passed, and they finished their glass and were about to make another pug. Suddenly Manu (Name changed) looked in the direction Ravi had gone and asked others whether Ravi had come back.
To his question, everyone looked in the same direction at a time and kept staring in the same spot they last saw him, hoping Ravi might pop out any movement.
They all froze in the same pose. Then Manu shouted Ravi’s name trying to call him out, and they all waited for a reply from Ravi.
After 10 seconds of pause, they all felt a chill on their spines for no reason. They all got up one by one and started walking in the same direction, they kept calling his name, trying to act cool and tell him to stop hiding him.
When they reached the same spot, they still couldn’t see him, and once again they called out his name. Yet no replay came back. So they walked a little further, still calling out his name.
It didn’t take them much time to spot Ravi sleeping on the ground on a crouched stage. They all spotted him and ran towards him, thinking he might have tripped and fell and hurt himself.
After examining, they couldn’t find any injuries on him. They tried to wake him, but he did not respond. When they touched him, they were shocked to find out he had a high fever.
In that movement, they all came back to their senses. All the alcohol effects warred off in seconds. They carried him back to the tent and tried to wake him up, but Ravi did not respond to any of their calls.
They all thought for some time and decided together instead of waiting here all night and hoping his fever would go away. It’s better to carry him down the hill and to his home right away because the more we wait, it might get even darker, and they might not find a proper path, and it will be really risky.
Two guys started packing everything, they just put all the chicken on top of a rock. The rest of them started carrying Ravi on their backs, giving him a piggyback ride down the hill. They each took turns carrying him down. Because they were all drunk, and also downhill is really risky.
Arun said they hardly remember how they came down from the mountain but in that drunken state and also carrying him on the back, they came much faster than it took them to climb up.
They quickly rented two autos and headed back to Ravi’s home.
Once they reached him, they carefully carried him to his home. His parents were shocked, and his mom started crying and screaming after his son. His dad was pissed off, but he asked exactly what had happened and took his son to the clinic for testing.
After checking, the doctor gave him an Injunction and some tablets and said not to worry he just got a fever, and he would be better by morning.
Everyone felt great and all their stress washed away in a matter of seconds. The doctor instructed Ravi’s father that he could take him. Arun and his friends helped him and made sure Ravi reached his home safely, and then they left for their own houses.
The next morning, Arun called others to check how others were and also to get an update on Ravi. So far, none of them have called Ravi or his family. So Arun decided to visit him and check.
Manu also joined Arun, they both reached Ravi’s place, and they were shocked to find that his fever had still not come down. Then Ravi’s mom told him last night his fever went even higher, so now his dad has gone to the temple to do some pooja in his name.
They waited in his place for another hour and were above to leave; that’s when Ravi’s dad came home with the temple priest.
The temple priest checked Ravi and said nothing, he was a good friend of Ravi’s father. Priest and Ravi’s dad sat on the sofa and were drinking coffee offered by Ravi’s mom. Then the priest asked him Arun, which mountain did you go on the trek.
Arun said XYZ (name changed). After listening to the name of the location, the priest dint say anything. He asked for more details and exactly what all they did and where and all they visited. Then the priest said you guys visited a most dangerous place, You guys should not have gone there or stayed late and even cocked in that location.
Arun and Manu were shocked in the beginning and asked why and what happened. Then the priest told him, like, around 50 to 60 years ago, one of the neighbour villager guys died at that location. No one knew how he died, and the news came to know three days after his death. Till now, nobody knows how he died. My guess is a sprite possessed him.
Due to this, both Arun and Manu felt like they couldn’t breathe and neither knew how to react. The Priest looked at Ravi’s father and told him I would do a Pooja for him here and then let’s see what happens.
That evening, the priest and Ravi’s father prepared everything for the Pooja. Arun called all his other friends who went on the trip to his house. Then, during the ritual, the priest made Ravi sit in front of him and started talking with him.
Then Ravi, who was still in high fever, was hardly able to open his eyes or mouth till now. Started speaking to the priest. The priest asked him who he was and what he was doing in Ravi’s body. The Sprite talked through Ravi and told him that he was sitting in the place where he died, not disturbing anyone. And out of nowhere, this boy came and pissed on him. That’s why Sprite took over his body, and he wants to take him away.
Listening to this, Arun and his friends felt like someone poured cold water on top of them. The Priest did some Pooja and used some spells, and somehow he was able to remove the sprite from Ravi’s body.
And now everything is back to normal, and everyone is happy and married, still they meet up once in a while and do parties together.

Moral
Whenever anyone goes on a vacation or trip, please use the public toilet to keep yourself safe. No one knows who is staying in which place or what was in that place before. Humans are not the open sprite that exists. They are energy beyond our knowledge and exist everywhere. Careful, stay safe and enjoy.
